A Tale of Two Quarters

The Dream came out firing on all cylinders in the first quarter, exploiting weaknesses in the Fever’s defense. Atlanta built a commanding lead, stretching it to a sizable 15 points at one point. The Fever were held to a meager 24 points in the opening frame, as Atlanta capitalized on their fast breaks. A late basket by rookie Celeste Taylor right before halftime brought the score within one point, 49-48.

Defensive Adjustments Spark Second-Half Surge

A crucial defensive shift implemented by the Fever coaching staff proved to be the turning point in the second half. Indiana clamped down on the Dream, restricting them to a measly 31 points. Atlanta’s shooting woes worsened their situation, as they connected on less than 29% of their field goal attempts. The Fever, on the other hand, found their offensive rhythm. NaLyssa Smith continued her impressive preseason form, leading the team with 21 points. Grace Berger orchestrated the offense with a game-high seven assists, while rookie sensation Caitlin Clark delivered a well-rounded performance with 12 points and eight rebounds. The Fever dominated the paint, outscoring the Dream 38-28 and registering a staggering 11 blocks.

Record-Breaking Night for Fever Fans

The night wasn’t just about the on-court victory. Indiana Fever fans came out in record numbers, packing Gainbridge Fieldhouse with a passionate crowd of 13,028. This surpassed the previous franchise record for a preseason home game, set in 2000, the team’s inaugural season. The electrifying atmosphere undoubtedly fueled the Fever’s second-half comeback, with the crowd erupting after every key basket and defensive stop.

Eyes on the Regular Season

With the preseason concluded, the Indiana Fever now set their sights on the upcoming regular season. Their journey begins on Tuesday, May 14th, when they travel to face the perennial contender, the Connecticut Sun. However, the Indiana Fever, buoyed by their preseason success and a rabid fanbase, enter the season brimming with newfound confidence and momentum.
